What is Forged Magnesium?

At Litespeed Racing, forged magnesium is an advanced material we use to create ultra-light, high-performance wheels. While carbon fiber has been a popular choice for lightweight wheels due to its high tensile strength and low density, it has limitations. A significant amount of carbon fiber is required to ensure safety against impacts, and its inability to be shaped into stronger, complex structures like I-beams reduces its potential.

Forged magnesium alloys offer a superior solution for lightweight wheel construction, outperforming traditional cast magnesium wheels (mag wheel) and even forged aluminum in both tensile and fatigue strength. With a significantly lower density, forged magnesium is ideal for reducing unsprung mass and rotational weight, which are critical for high-speed performance and track days. Its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio translates to improved handling, faster acceleration, and enhanced overall performance, making it a pinnacle material for lightweight wheel technology that also delivers corrosion resistance and durability.

Advantages of

Magnesium Wheels

  • Lighter than steel wheels: Magnesium wheels significantly reduce unsprung and rotational mass compared to heavy steel wheels.

  • Superior strength-to-weight ratio: Outperforms aluminum wheels, making magnesium ideal for high-performance applications.

  • Better weight savings: Achieves lighter wheels than carbon fiber while offering greater impact resistance and design flexibility.

  • Track performance: Forged magnesium wheels enhance cornering precision, responsiveness, and lap times, making them the ultimate choice for race track and high-speed driving.

About Me.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What colors or finishes can go on magnesium wheels?

Your new wheels can be any color, and we offer fully customizable, endless color options. The finishes on your magnesium wheels cannot be brushed or raw metal with a clear coat.

Can these replace any car wheels?

Due to our customization options and price point, our wheels are available for any sports car. We offer options that can fit Porsches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and other high-end cars. Our lightweight wheels can replace and upgrade any OEM wheels.

What does it mean for a metal to be an alloy?

An alloy is a combination of a metal, such as pure magnesium, with one or more additional elements, which may include metals, nonmetals, or both. Alloys are made by melting the base metal and mixing in other elements, then allowing the mixture to cool and solidify. Compared to pure metals, alloys often exhibit enhanced properties, such as increased strength, durability, or resistance to corrosion, making them ideal for applications like replacing older cast wheels when reducing rotational mass is critical for performance.

Is upgrading to Litespeed's performance wheel's worth it?

Yes, if you are looking to improve the speed, performance, and the efficiency of your sports car while accenting its overall look, Litespeed Racing is the best option.

How do I keep my magnesium wheels looking their best?

Due to their advanced make-up, cleaning our magnesium wheels is fairly straightforward. Using a non-acid cleaner, or dish soap, simply rinse and scrub the wheels to remove any road build up or oxidation. For more detailed instructions look here
